The Scott Taylor Story.
A Beautiful Girl
It was in a university bar in Reading where the journey of my life started to change course. I met a beautiful young student who would later become my wife. Within a week we had shared our first kiss, but on getting her back to her dorm room, I discovered to my horror that she was a Christian. This being said I continued to pursue. We spent lots of time together when she wasn't at her Christian stuff. She would go to church - I would drink!!!
A Friendly Church
One Saturday, she asked me to drive her and some friends to church so I did. It wasn't what I was expecting - no organ, no pews, and lots of friendly people - even some in their twenties! From Nov 1998 I started going regularly.
A Chance To Ask Questions
In January 1999 I went on an Alpha course that helped me find out more about this Jesus that I had heard loads about in church and around my girlfriend’s friends (who were also quickly also becoming my friends!). I heard about the historical proof that Jesus existed and about the reason that he had come. All my 'difficult' questions were answered and dealt with, with love and gentleness.
A Quote from the Bible
On Feb 3rd 1999, whilst teaching a bored class of 8 and 9 year olds about the Jewish Menorah, a girl asked me why Jesus had died on the cross - a random question considering the lesson at hand. However I set about answering the question - quoting the Bible. I didn't know this of course, but I did have a real sense of excitement and happiness that I couldn't understand after a day at work!
A Loving God
Driving to Alpha that night I told my girlfriend of my classroom experience and as I did so I remember hearing the words 'this is all true, believe in me and you will have eternal life as your sins will be forgiven.' That night I stopped living for myself and started living for God because of his love for me.
A Complete Change
My life leading up to Feb 3rd 1999 had seen me relying on alcohol to take away the past. I had crossed over into the realms of alcoholism. I awoke on Feb 4th 1999, and for the first time in just over 9 months, I no longer craved beer. Jesus had completely freed me from the hold that drink had over me. Everything that I had heard about Jesus was true!!!
A New Life
Since that day God has transformed my life. From very early on I found telling people about Jesus was very natural. I enjoy engaging in conversations about my faith and putting the truth forward and addressing misconceptions. I also knew that God wanted me to trust him in praying for the sick. I know that I cannot heal anyone, but I know that God wants to heal people today and so I have stepped out in that and seen God do some great things. My life is now lead by putting my trust in Him at al times. It is hard sometimes, I have down days, I get things wrong, I make mistakes, I get ill, my relatives pass away, but none of these things stop me from relying on the grace and mercy that He has shown me.
